When mentioning great Japanese food in San Diego two names always come up Todai Japanese Sushi and Seafood Buffet in Mission Valley and Rocky Aoki’s legendary Benihana Japanese Steakhouse and Sushi Restaurant. The problem is that people just aren’t as informed on some of the fantastic smaller Japanese restaurants in San Diego. One such place is Shizuoka Japanese Restaurant located on Lake Murray Boulevard nestled in the shopping center between Michaels, the arts and crafts superstore and local favorite restaurant Souplantation near the heart of La Mesa. During my visit I was blown away by Shizuoka’s extraordinary food as well as their excellent service and friendly staff. Shizuoka’s intimate setting is the perfect atmosphere is perfect for a romantic evening with that special someone or a relaxing evening with friends and family. The food in particular was prepared exceptionally well. My date and I started off with an order of miso soup, an excellent order breaded shrimp udon, and salad with a side of delicious oriental dipping sauce. For our main course we both ordered the beef teriyaki donburi which was cooked to perfection and left both of us with a pleasant feeling of satisfaction. In accordance with their excellent menu the price of the food greatly compliments the quality and overall dining experience. In With fantastic food, friendly service, and a price tag that you’ve got to see to believe, make the Shizuoka Japanese restaurant dining experience a part of your near future.
